A group of our Year 7 and 8 students were delighted to meet A.D. Downton who came to talk to them about the creative process of publishing his debut novel 'The Cavern Under the Lake'.
Drawing on his experiences as a traveller, cartographer and writer, Adam entertained the students by showing them the landscapes that captured his imagination and the journey that he has been on to produce his newly published fantasy-adventure novel.
Adam prompted the students to begin building their own fictional-worlds through map-making; some of them produced maps that would make Adam's main character Levi proud!
In the second half of the session Adam gave the students a creative writing challenge, encouraging them to find their own inner novelists. The workshop finished with a short Q&A where students quizzed Adam on his life and work. And they had plenty of questions for him!
Overall, Adam delivered a dynamic, interesting and challenging workshop, inspiring our students to find their own pathways as readers and writers (and who knows, maybe even cartographers!).
